Richard Norman “Reconnecting Rotary. Challenges for a centennial.”
New Zealand’s first Rotary clubs were started in Wellington and Auckland in 1921, then Christchurch in 1922. Richard Norman, a project leader for a centennial history of Rotary in New Zealand will comment on strengths and challenges facing Rotary and other community organisations with examples from a 300 page illustrated book due out by May.
Richard recently retired from a role as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Business and Government at Victoria University. He is a member of Wellington Rotary and has a strong interest how non-profit organisations can make a distinctive contribution ‘post-Covid’ and how important it is for the voluntary sector to avoid being strangled by ‘bear hugs’ from Government agencies.
Rotary has strong networks and a century of achievements from which to contribute to implementing a Government budget process adopted in 2019, of focus on ‘wellbeing’ in the areas of social, human, environmental, infrastructure and financial capital.
